Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Vidyalaya, Tennur, Trichy, celebrated its 58th Annual Sports Meet on 25th July 2026 with great enthusiasm and a true spirit of sportsmanship at Saranathan College of Engineering.
The event was graced by Thiru P. Francis Sagayaraj, Inspector, Trichy Customs Department, as the Chief Guest. The programme was compered by Mrs. J. Kavitha, Mrs. Gale Maria, and student compères C. Sangavi and V. Rithiga.
The ceremony commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest, followed by the Tamil Thai Vazhthu and the Prayer Song. The gathering was welcomed by Dr. Gayathri Mathrubootham, Gynaecologist, and a memento was presented to the Chief Guest by Shri S. Ravindran, Secretary. The Sports Flag was then hoisted, symbolising unity, discipline, and the spirit of fair play, followed by an impressive March Past by the four houses—Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow.
One of the highlights of the event was the lighting of the Olympic Torch, followed by the Sports Oath administered to the athletes. The Chief Guest then officially declared the Sports Meet open.
The programme featured exciting track events, including the 4 × 100 metres relay races for boys and girls, along with a fun-filled event for parents.
The audience was also captivated by a vibrant Mass Drill and a dynamic Silambam performance presented by the students.
The Annual Games Report was presented by Mr. Ganesan, Physical Education Teacher, highlighting the school’s achievements in sports and games. In his inspiring address, the Chief Guest encouraged the students to uphold discipline, perseverance, determination, and the true spirit of sportsmanship in all their endeavours.
The event concluded with the Prize Distribution Ceremony, celebrating the achievements of the winners. Mrs. G. Prasanna Kumari, Principal, proposed the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
The programme concluded with the National Anthem, bringing to a close a memorable celebration of teamwork, excellence, and sporting spirit.
