World English Day is celebrated every year on April 23 to commemorate the birth and death anniversary of the English playwright and poet William Shakespeare.
The English language is one of the most popular languages spoken around the globe.
Shakespeare’s creativity had a huge impact on modern-day English, he contributed hundreds of new words and phrases like ‘gossip’, ‘fashionable’, ‘lonely’. He also invented phrases like ‘break the ice’, ‘all our yesterdays’, ‘faint-hearted’ and ‘love is blind’.
